The Pedissert – Vol. 7 – “Le Printemps à Paris”

Casting calls are a common way to find a potential participant; however, nothing beats good ol’ word-of-mouth.
Liz (from Vol. 6) had told her friend group about the shoot we did, and it turns out that her friend Julia was “down to clown”, so to speak. I reached out to Julia, and she was very excited to participate.
When it came to the theme for a shoot, we were trying to think of something timely. Depending on how long it takes to edit everything after a shoot, we were cutting it way too close when it came to holidays like “May the Fourth be With You” and “Cinco de Mayo.” Julia suggested a Parisian theme, since France is known for creamy pastries. And with that, we came up with a “Springtime in Paris” theme!
For the pie colors, I came up with a mixture of the French tricolor (red, white, and blue) mixed in with springtime colors (yellow and green.) I thought about including pink as well, but therein lies on of the issues with coloring whipped cream or Cool Whip: using red turns it pink, and it’s near-impossible to get a deep red without using too much food coloring that could stain the skin.
I also Googled some great places to visit in Paris, as well as various day trips you could take. Maybe I can use these someday? We’ll see… but in this economy?
You’ll notice something different with the crusts; I used baked crusts instead of the usual graham cracker crust. In addition to trying something more “French pastry”-like, I wanted to explore if I could avoid using a pie tin. In this case, it wouldn’t have worked, since the crusts broke apart a little bit when I tried to take them out. I’ll probably avoid using the ones from Aldi going forward.
You’ll also notice something different with the stool. For comfort reasons, I raised the stool up and placed a pillow on top. I’m not sure if this is something I’ll stick with going forward, but we’ll see.
Julia really enjoyed the texture and taste of the cream pies on her feet. She didn’t taste it directly from her feet, but if someone was that limber, I would be impressed! Hmm… maybe someone who does yoga? Should I do a yoga-themed Pedissert? 10 poses to reach namaste, yet leaving your feet exposed for some pieing?
Anyway… as I make these pies almost the same as a pie for someone’s face, I want to make sure they taste decent should any end up in your mouth. Just don’t eat a lot of it, because it’s not healthy for you.
That all being said, Julia and I had a lot of fun making this shoot for you. She’s also recommended another friend that may be interested in participating! In addition to that, I may have a couple of other people who want to join in the fun!
