The Pedissert – Vol. 1

You’ve probably come here and wondered what a “Pedissert” is, so I wrote up a whole section in the FAQ for it. Now, you get to see what it actually looks like!
There’s a bit of a story behind this as well.
Originally, I had reached out on a local Discord server to find out some good places to advertise for people to participate, and gave some slight details on my inspiration. A friend, who is one of the mods on said Discord server, was interested, even after I gave her more details on what a “Pedissert” consisted of, and gave her every opportunity to run the other way.
I went ahead and bought my supplies to make the 10 pies; unfortunately, she let me know the day of our planned shoot that she had to bail for reasons beyond her control. It was unfortunate, but I do not fault her for it at all. It was legitimately out of her control.
Unfortunately, I had pies made taking up space in the freezer, but no feet to smoosh them into.
I reached out to Liz, who I knew from working on some other projects together, to see if she knew anybody who might be interested. It turned out that Liz was herself interested and offered to participate. We set the date for the shoot, and everything was coming up Milhouse.
In conclusion, the shoot went pretty well for the first time I ever shot something like this. There were some issues that I’ll improve on for the next one:
- My anxiety-ridden dog really wanted to be part of this; in fact, you’ll hear her panting hard earlier in the shoot. While there was nothing toxic to dogs in any of the pies, if she ate any more than a “pup cup”, she’d have pretty bad diarrhea, and I didn’t want that. Luckily, we were able to calm her down and keep her from eating anything.
- I was a little more awkward than even I thought possible. Even Chuck Barris would have thought I was a bit too awkward! I’ll work on being less awkward for next time.
- A couple of the pictures ended up a little out of focus, because the Pixel camera decided to change the focus point on me while I was taking the picture; it looked OK when previewing it on the Pixel, but was more noticeable when editing on my computer. I was able to salvage them the best I could, but I’ll be more cognizant of Google trying to do that to me next time.
- Probably a little less important – but I was a little weak on some of my pie smooshing. I didn’t want to smoosh or throw a pie too hard and get anything on anyone’s clothes if I promised not to.
That all being said, the most important thing is that we got weird and had fun! Check out the photos and video below.
