The Pedissert - Vol. 2

After doing the first Pedissert with Liz, I’ve become really enamored with this strange concept. Pieing a woman’s bare feet with colorful whipped cream pies, turning them into an ephemeral, colorful, (technically) edible, living sculpture of cream and crust? You could do this 100 times, and it’ll be different every time. So why not do 100 Pedisserts?

Around the time the first attempt at a shoot went awry due to my model backing out (again, for reasons beyond her control), I had reached out on a local subreddit to see if there was interest.

Callie responded to my request. She told me she was no stranger to absurd performance art, and told me of a video she had participated in that actually ties in to the holiday season. You’ll hear a little more about it in her introduction. She was excited about doing this project, so we set up a time and I “baked” ten pies.

Speaking of the pies, I was very pleased with how these turned out. The Americolor gel food coloring didn’t arrive in time for the last shoot, but I was able to use it here. It gave the cream vibrant, rich colors, although I’m still learning how to get the red a little deeper. For this Pedissert, I was able to get all 10″ graham cracker crusts, which makes it easier to pie both feet at once. The crust breaking apart on impact provides a nice visual effect, and when it slowly slides off the feet, it provides a nice “paintbrush” effect.

Callie wore “shortalls” for the shoot, which were very popular in the 1990s, and I personally like the look. I generally don’t require any particular wardrobe for these shoots (outside of making it easy to bare your feet), but I very much appreciate the extra effort, since I was inspired by a scene from early 1990s television.

We had a fun time during the shoot. The colors and textures of the pies popped really well on her feet, and the pictures came out great. When we got Callie’s feet cleaned up, there was no staining from the food coloring. My anxiety-ridden senior dog was also generally well-behaved, thanks to some new anti-anxiety medication we’re trying.

There was just one issue when reviewing the video: the audio during the intro and aftermath segments was great; for some reason, the audio started skipping and breaking during the segment with the first pie, and then stopped recording audio completely during the segment with the second pie. As a result, the foot pieing segments are mostly silent, but I’ve added some paraphrased dialogue subtitles as best I remember it. In my opinion, it doesn’t take away from the video, as the action and color still really pop.

I also added more of a film look to this video that helps the colors pop; I couldn’t use it in the last one because the pastel colors of the pies in that one completely washed out.

That all said, we got weird and had fun, as we are wont to do during these things! Check out the photos and video below.
